PANEL DISCUSSION DESCRIPTION

Neck pain and stiffness are relatively common across all disciplines and levels. However, some clinical signs may be secondary to pain originating from distant areas. With an increasing understanding that some imaging abnormalities may be observed in apparently asymptomatic horses in full work, interpreting the relevance of these findings can be challenging. Additionally, neck radiography is increasingly performed as part of pre-purchase examinations.

As our ability to image the neck expands—thanks to improvements in direct digital radiography (DR) systems and the increasing use of computed tomography (CT) to image the base of the neck—there have been several recent advances in understanding the potential relevance of imaging findings in both clinical cases and pre-purchase examinations.

This multidisciplinary panel discussion brings together specialists from the United States and the UK to explore and debate current thinking on the diagnostic imaging of the neck.
